This was one of the first albums I bought after I started to have part-time jobs in high school and a little money of my own. I have always loved this song -- both the Supremes' version on their tribute album to Ms. Cooke and his own wonderful original. His death was so tragic, since there was so much more wonderful music that he could have given the world. If he had lived, I am sure there would have been a duet of two with Diana Ross at some point -- and that collaboration could only have given us something truly memorable. Billboard magazine named Ms. Ross' "Endless Love" duet with Lionel Richie (also written by Mr. Richie) the best duet of all time and also the most successful duet of all time. Perhaps she and Mr. Cooke could have given us the second best of all time. Thanks for posting this. A lot of wonderful memories of my youth flood back as I listen to it. I am becoming a subscriber, so you will undoubtedly hear more thanks from me later.

Definitely a great rendition of the song, but Sam Cooke takes the cake if you ask me.

I know this song belongs to a Mr Sam Cook but my god just listen to the supreme's version, pure ecstacy .They were truly angels from heaven.

If you listen to the many recordings made by Florence available on YouTube, you will find that her voice is not very distinctive and she had problems maintaining pitch. I respect your right to your opinion, and I love Florence and all the Supremes, but the claim that Florence had a phenomenal voice are not borne out by any recorded evidence. It would honor her memory more if people accepted and celebrated her achievements and did not try to make her something she did not even want to be.

no one was interested in Flo's dime a dozen voice. Diane had the unique voice and 50 yrs later people still love hearing it.

the difference between a male and female version of the song. The supremes version was more melodic and more pleasant to listen too.

The Supremes make it sound more like sex where as Sam gave you the feeling of doing hard time which I experienced in NY but fortunately I did not have to wear striped pajamas or orange jump suits back then we made Khakis and wore work shoes and we did get to go out and work on the grounds, those of us doing skid bids or with less than two years to go Everybody wants to punish well when I see some white collar types who have stolen peoples entire savings swinging a pick or sledge then I'll say OK
