I think you missed the point the dude was making; if you use a combo of the same type of cymbal then yes, you'll achieve a similar result. As for endorsements, each one is different. If he's getting free cymbals from Zildjian, then he's getting paid. It's not money, but that's how these things work. many up and coming artists get what's called an at-cost endorsement, where the artist still pays for product. Bigger names like Chad don't pay, so they can go apeshit on their kit hahaha!

But he still is an Zildjian endorser which means that he cannot play other cymbal companies products?

@aaronalwines I think the point of this to extend your creativity on the kit with regards to sound and open up your imagination to ways you can generate different sounds from what you have. The sensible option for a gig or studio sesh would be electronic samples like you rightly pointed out and I don't think chad is trying to promote this type of playing live.

@aaronalwines Definitely...........spending money on an effects cymbal is just like investing money on a one trick pony. Samplers are the best bet. I even think sampling module like the Roland SPDS.......can take the place of let's say.........a Timpani - also a pretty limited instrument and a bloody expensive one for that matter

@pescalante2 you have a point, but the only reason hes using the zilidjians is because he was paid to, im sure if you used a wuhan china and splash, you'd get the exact same effect, and im certain any splash placed on a snare would produce that sound.

@high8us And a good way to keep rights to that idea is by posting it on a public website that anybody can see. Cool idea though.

@pescalante2 actually you can buy some cheap wuhans and get a really close sound to this stuff. i made my own trash hats for like 30 bucks and it sounds pretty good

my drum teacher showed me the cymbal on the snare to make a techno/industrial kind of sound but he had a little shit crappy cymbal that you can get with plastic baby drumkits :) it still sounded good and it was not that expensive.....you could use that as an alternative if you dont want to go and buy expensive cymbals : )

Josh Freese (session/NIN) just uses samples. It's way easier. And as for the splash on the snare. Meinl Drumbal is way cheaper and has a handle and does it just as well

yeah man if I crapped either cymbals or money I would try it out it's not like I can go buy 20 cymbals just to play like that
