Last night I sang this song with a group in Waipu New Zealand, which is a settlement of Scottish origin - and we far out eclipsed this performance.I kid you not!!You are right - I am kidding - but we were not too far short in intensity if not quality!!

Some of you may be interested in the history of this song. It's also known as The Londonderry Air. Londonderry or Derry as it's often referred to is a city in Northern Ireland where I grew up. Sometime in the late 19th century it was a melody regularly played by a street fiddler in a small town about 14 miles away. Someone with a knowledge of music recognised the beauty of it and wrote down the notes for posterity.It fell into the hands of a lawyer in England who also wrote lyrics as a past time so he then sold it on. However, there was a dispute as to whether he had actually written the lyrics and bad blood ensued. Not surprisingly I think it's the most beautiful melody ever and has been sung by so many famous performers including Elvis Presley. The version sung by these gorgeous ladies has to be one of the best.
