The opening two cuts from Van's unannounced Fife Aid '88 set in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. Celtic Excavation features Van's fairly unique alto sax (unfortunately I have no pictures of this from the gig) and a piano solo from Neil Drinkwater, while Slipstream opens with a guitar intro from Van (which I love - he plays guitar and sax the same way!) and a solo from yours truly later on. If I remember correctly, I broke a string during this solo, hence the guitar goes a bit out of tune momentarily! Otherwise it was a good recording though. The band members, most of whom had only met Van that morning, are listed at the end of the video. The voice of the MC at the beginning was played by none other than Robbie the Pict., and my guitar tech was one Rab Randall from Edinburgh, who had just finished a world tour as Ry Cooder's tech.

from 1978 on at least one tune beautiful obsession onto 1991's hymns to the silence he's really been into new age, light jazz and spirituality if I can be non specific. That's a huge portion of his career, and I'm surprised that it wasn't his least commnercial and least talked about. you still hear that John Lee style blues guitar on Queen of the Slipstream, so I don't all speak the truth . . I wish he would do some albums like that, less country lless rand b and more like those cds (albums). But where he goes next even after making traditional irish (irish Heartbeat)and skiffle records with Donnegan is not up to us to now or decide.

Oh wow two tracks I really like, together and given a fantastic treatment by Van. The way he plays the sax just gets me every time. This track could play for hours and I'd be right there in the zone . Thanks for sharing.
