The Cathedral Choir of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels singing "Lead Me Lord" arr. Fred Bock during the Mark Thallander Foundation's annual choral festival "Let Your Joy Be Known" at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on February 17, 2008. This was our choir's solo piece during the festival. We are accompanied on the cathedral's Dobson organ by Cathedral Organist, Sal Soria and conducted by Director of Music, Frank Brownstead. Sorry for the coughing people and crying babies...that's what you get with a live recording in a public place.

Holy snap, I've been to that Cathedral a few times during middle school. Didn't realize the first few seconds of pics was the Cathedral under construction.

A travesty of the SS Wesley original.

Oh dear. For a truly inspirational experience, do listen to the original version for alto solo, choir and organ, which is the final section of Samuel Sebastian Wesley's fine anthem of 1861, 'Praise the Lord, O my Soul'. Wesley was a master of melody and harmony, and certainly doesn't merit this kind of outdated treatment. It sounds utterly sentimental, only lacking the singing strings and electric organ to complete the parody.

And who still speaks Latin, because I certainly don't. Respect Vatican II.

This is one of my favourite and moving pieces for choir. Brings back many lovely memories when my choir used to sing it.

That's actually not a sanctuary light. It's one of 12 bronze Dedication Candle Holders in the nave of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. They were designed and fabricated by sculptor Max DeMoss, and biblically refer to the twelve tribes of Israel and to the twelve Apostles. The candles are lighted on each anniversary of the cathedral's dedication and on the anniversary of Rome's Cathedral of St. John Lateran.

This is a very touching rendition and the choice of tempo makes it all the more moving. Maybe the coughing people and crying babies would have detracted from another performance, but I find it absolutely fine in this recording. Our Lord would want the ill and those with children to stay and enjoy the beautiful music too.

Did anyone notice the interesting Sanctuary Light at 1:22? What an idea that was! I like traditional as much as the next - liturgy as well as architecture, but there are some real beautiful elements. I would wager, that most people would have a different opinion in person. The key is always: how reverent is it? And that should reflect the people present in devotion.

And yet the Bible prescribes the Cherubim that adore the Ark of the Covenent, The prohibition is against trying to create a physical image of the Divine, such as the Children saw in Egypt, and replicated in the Golden Calf.

Ar'nt peoples perceptions interesting..? ....modern=evil? ...really?...commented by the modern person, using the modern computer, in their modern house, only to tell others that they are too modern. ...and also perhaps, therefore evil. All these comments pre-judging or questioning the holiness of this place based on how the building looks...
