The Diddley beat isn't easy to do well and I think this has a great groove, The Pirates being one of the best and most under rated of bands.

This was a single cut by the Pirates without Johnny Kidd in 1964.The singer is bass player Johnny Spence.Johnny Kidd was happy for them to make this record on their own as they often did it live before Johnny came on.The other side was "My Babe" which again featured Johnny Spence singing.Johnny Kidd died in 1966 and the Pirates re-formed in 1976.

Are you sure, UncleBoko? I bought this and it certainly said Johnny Kidd on the label. Main point, though is that it's certainly Mick Green on guitar (or are you going to tell me that's wrong too.

I was told a story by a skipper of a boat working out of Swansea that I have no reason to believe or to reject and that I merely repeat here. He claims that his mate took his girl to see Johnny Kidd and the Pirates when they performed somewhere in South Wales- I think he said in Swansea. His girlfriend was a great fan of Johnny Kidd et al. He lost her mid-concert and couldn't find her until a friend told him that she had managed to go backstage with band after the performance. He climbed the steps to the backstage entrance banged on the door which was opened by a large bouncer and in the background he saw his girlfriend giving oral relief to Johnny Kidd. As he began to protest the Bouncer punched him full in the face and he woke at the bottom of the stairs from which he made his way home. I understand that he and this young lady parted ways shortly afterwards. I have no evidence that this tale is true but it was told to me as a true tale.
