I want to find out if it is NOT blocked by YT if one specifies it is a transfer from an original 78....

Here the young, lyrical Caruso (1. Feb. 1904) performs the very emotional aria "Vesti la giubba" from the opera "Pagliacci", written and composed by Ruggero Leoncavallo.

English Text:

Act! While in delirium,

I no longer know what I say,

or what I do!

And yet it's necessary... make an effort!

Bah! Are you not a man?

You are a clown!

Put on your costume,

powder your face.

The people pay to be here, and they want to laugh.

And if harlequin shall steal your Columbina,

laugh, clown, so the crowd will cheer!

Turn your distress and tears into jest,

your pain and sobbing into a funny face - Ah!

Laugh, clown,

at your broken love!

Laugh at the grief that poisons your heart!

The man who serves as a role model for verismo tenors since over 100 years. I think his voice was a natural gift, like Lauri-Volpi's voice.

@wiseroldfart :-) We of course don't heard the dispair fully due to the poor recording. I'm trying to picture the reaction of the MET audience at the time. Women sobbing and men getting a stern look in an effort not to...

@goodboybuddy1 Thank, James. Yes, his vibrato is exceptional. I think it was a natural gift AND hard work. He was a real pro - constantly working to improve his singing.

It's OK here in the US. Great performance, too. Have you noticed the complete regularity of his vibrato? it flows through every note. I wonder if he had to work to get that or if it was a natural gift. Any ideas about this?
