Original Kansas member Kerry Livgren joined the band for a special appearance during the 40th Anniversary Fan Appreciation Concert in Pittsburgh, Pa., August 17, 2013. This excerpt from "Carry On Wayward Son" shows that Kerry still has it on the guitar! Later in the show he was back at the keyboards. The concert was held at the former Stanley Theater, now known as the Benedum Center, the site of a career-enhancing concert for the band involving Queen and Styx some 38 years before. The great Kerry Livgren...when they talk about this band 200 years from now....this will be the man they talk about...everyone in the original band was a huge part...but Kerry was the straw that stirred the drink.

For me, Kerry Livgren was so essential to Kansas that I never considered Kansas Kansas without him. Glad I saw them in 76 at their peak. Phenomenal!

@Littlemountainguitar,If you think Steve's voice sounds "great", you must have never seen him in the 70's, 80's, or even the 90's. I've seen Kansas at least 20 times (from 1977 - 2010), and his voice pales in comparison to what it once was. (For many years, he was the greatest singer in Rock n' Roll without question!)I saw Kansas play a lot throughout the 1990's and at that point in his career his voice still sounded "great" at most shows. However, something drastic happened to his voice around 2003 - 2004 ore thereabouts. A few years after that, I heard he had vocal surgery in order to fix the problem. However, since the alleged surgery, his voice has a strange, hollow-like, almost cartoonish quality to it. Unfortunately, I haven't seen Kansas in about 4 years. I just want to cry when I hear Steve's voice now because he could have taken better care of himself and his voice.. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Steve sucks. He can still carry a tune and at times he still sounds credible. However, I'm just grateful for all the times I heard him when his voice truly was remarkable! :)

So great to see Kerry jamming again with Rich, Phil and Steve. Kansas are one of the best progressive bands of all time. Their music still resonates today and always will. Leftoverture and Song for America are my all-time favorite Kansas albums. Love Kansas.

Kerry is truly a poetic genius as well. The lyrics to " Miracles out of Nowhere" remind me of "The Gnostic Gospel of Thomas" "Cleave the wood and you will find me, lift the stone and I am there." "The Kingdom of God is spread out across the Earth. Yet men see it not " BLESSED BE, KERRY! DOCTOR APOCALYPSE and a purr from GOLDENEYE (familiar, child of Bast)

There is a testimony video with Kerry and his Wife - she found him unresponsive on the bathroom floor in the middle of the night - he was not sure if would be able to play againLooks like he's doing really well!

No one mentioned that Kerry has, for several years, struggled with the after-affects of a pretty serious stroke.

Anyone know who the additional keyboard player is? They haven't done that since 1997.
