Tony Banks' famous intro to Carpet Crawlers from the prog masterpiece The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by Genesis. Played slow at the end.

This brilliant bit of music also appears in the middle of The Lamb as shown. For the CC intro there are only 2 reps on the first 2 chords instead of 4.

This isn't a tutorial it's a demonstration. Played well but obscured and the OP's comments are dismissive and derogatory toward anyone who is learning.

Excellent demo, however, bad tutorial as you never say what notes you play, and you can't see half of them either. Sorry

Wonderful! But did Banks record Carpet Crawlers in a easier way (maybe programming a Fairlight CMI) or him played like you do here?

Well done Matt, this little intro parts are often what Genesis essence is, great tricky works sounding music, thanks to Tony's works, blessed with creativity in these days. This one was a great souvenir for me, had it on my very first musical tapes made by my cousin when I was ten, the most beautiful part of Carpet Crawl.. even if the following of the song is very different written, it's more about the words flowing. A sheet would be good, but watching you doing is not bad either. I'm playing too, have a Korg SV-1, trying to make a sound approaching, choosed a Clavinet with some phasing effects, how do you get them here ?

Great job, and thanks so much! Think i'll use this to put down the finger numbers in my Rugginenti sheet music book.. :) Have used different fingerings myself; seeing this now i can tell this is easier than what i was doing. Thanks again, wilecuyote!

Is there a sustain on the RMI? I have one, but an earlier model....and a fixer upper lol...also, what are the sliders to the sides of the selectors? Is that the 'warbler?' Great stuff man :)

I't so beautiful that it is inexplicable. If I listen to this and focus on the music and nothing else I will find myself crying with joy.

Didn't Tony just play regular arpeggios?

So I'll finish some things and try recreating the sound with what you said, thanks again :D

That's what I wanted to hear! Thanks a lot :D hahaha I'm using am M50, if it's a hard task since it's the ONLY keyboard I have and I'm planing to do every album from Trespass to Wind and Wuthering in a Genesis tribute band in my country. So I will definitly not have the most "faithful" sounds, but I'm working my best. And so far it's been great! I'm just missing half of Trick of the Tail, Wind and Wuthering, and of course The Lamb (saved the best one for the last!).

it just occured to me what you're asking and you are correct. the left hand plays C# B A B instead of C# B C# B so it is different by one note. i forgot to do that when i did the video. oops!

what are you trying to recreate it on? i f you don't have an RMI you can still get a very good clone using a pulse wave and a piano like envelope.

What's exactly the sound he uses for CC??? I need some help recreating it :P

Sorry, what I meant to say is the 'cross hand' technique. On the first chord- you play E - B - E with your right hand, and you play D# and F# with your left hand. You can either play the notes individually, or play them partially at the same time (alternating hands) accenting more on the top and then the bottom, just like you would do on The Lamb. I'm not sure if this would work for every chord the way you have done them. It makes sense that he would be consistent on his style of playing.

This is correct, garanteed. There is no other way to get the accents correct and consistent. If you try the one hand method or left hand taking just the low note it isn't nearly as efficient and the accents don't come out right.
