Thank you! Glad to know this. This album is one of my very favorites. Ive always thought tho, that they (she) should have called it After the Storm instead of Playing Possum, but they didnt ask me! Oh well.

Carly fought with the Electra execs to drop Slave as the first single off Playing Possum. They insisted on Attitude Dancing but since that vocal was recorded live, she made them let her re-record the vocals. That is the version that was released, but 35 years later, I can't find that anywhere. All that is left is the origional recording (which was better).

This one of Carly Simon's most beautifully written pieces, not so much the words of the song, as the music itself. Notice the minor key most of this song is played in. Also, her use of the full orchestra of woodwinds,,piano,,violins, trumpets,base drum, cymbals ect behind her. Rita Coolidge singing background echo is awsome.

Leave it to Carly to write a song about being a slave to a man in 1974- 1975, when this album came out. Wasnt this in the ear of Woman's lib, bra burning, ect? Ill bet this wasnt Gloria Steinum's favorite song!

I was and am a fan of both, Rita, at the time wasn't as commercially viable as Carli, but she made up for lost time. I had this album at the time, and just as many by Rita. I used to read notes...I had NO IDEA Rita was connected to this album.
