This is one of Carl's best. He was one of the greatest true country singers in this, his best era. The damnable pop rock Nashville sound which came along a little later proceeded to contaminate to some extent even Carl's music (in the background) a few years hence.

Yes, Carl did. He cheated with Goldie Hill. He and June got divorced over it and he married Goldie, who he was married to until his death.

Looks like we have lost another one from country&westerns golden era. Not that many left alive, much less the few that stil tour, so when they come your way make a point to go see them before it is too late. I made that mistake with Johnny Cash, I passed on going to his show thinking I was too busy and I would see him the next time he came to town. He never came back. He retired after that tour due to his failing health. Always will regret that decision.
