Carl Perkins was SUN records main prospect ahead of Elvis before his horror crash, just imagine if he hadn't been in a crash. We may have had a different undisputed 'King of Rock n Roll'

On this day in 1956 {February 25th} "Blue Suede Shoes" by Carl Perkins entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #2 {for 4 weeks} and spent 21 weeks on the Top 100...It reached #1 on the Billboard C&W Hits chart and #3 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart...On March 17th, 1956 he performed the song for the 1st time on TV when he appeared the ABC-TV program 'Ozark Jubilee'.  And on very same night Elvis sang the song on the CBS-TV program 'The Dorsey Brothers Stage Show' for the second time...R.I.P. Mr. Perkins {1932 - 1998} and to The King {1935 - 1977}...

well, do you know you dont have to compare Elvis and Perkins? they both were big legends, adorable rock'n roll singers. i will NOT say Elvis or Perkins is better, because we dont need this. and i know Elvis has been famous with covering songs, but it doesnt change the fact: Elvis is a LEGEND okay?

On this day in 1956 {January 28th} Elvis performed "Heartbreak Hotel" and "Blue Suede Shoes" on the CBS-TV program 'The Dorsey Brothers Stage Show'...It was his debut on national TV and four weeks later on February 26th "Heartbreak Hotel" entered Billboard's Top 100...And on the very same day that "Heartbreak Hotel" entered the Top 100 so did the original version of "Blue Suede Shoes" by Carl Perkins {it reached #2 for 4 weeks on the Top 100}...

58 years ago this evening in 1955 - CARL PERKINS was having trouble sleeping so he got up and wrote some lyrics on a brown paper bag.Ed: That song, "Blue Suede Shoes", hit #2 on the pop and country charts, and became a huge hit for an unusually gorgeous and swollen-colon'd kid named ELVIS.

This song still rocks! This song is very adaptable to modern music sound.

This is kinda ironic, i just ordered a pair of blue suede sneakers today. Yellow trim, real nice look. I just hope they don't get soaked.

1950s were actually the best era. I love modern music too but the pure talent and nothing to hide behind made these musicians really special :)

From Rolling Stone magazine: Johnny Cash gave friend Carl Perkins the idea for "Blue Suede Shoes" based on the flashy wardrobe of an African-American Air Force colleague stationed in Germany. Cash, known for advocacy of minorities (like Native Americans), was involved in an ugly name-calling incident over a black soldier walking with a white woman. Later, he blamed the incident on the bigotry of rural Arkansas, where he was raised, & told a friend, "I never, ever disliked blacks."
