I wish people would stop saying Neil Peart is the greatest drummer of all time, blah blah. People who say this clearly don't listen to much music because there are plenty of drummers who can play faster, more complex patterns, with more independence, etc. Peart may be the most influential drummer of all time . . . watching this video, it is clear who Peart was into.

"In May of 1994, Neil God Peart undertook a recording project which will forever stand as the ultimate tribute to Bernard 'Buddy' Rich. He and Buddy's daughter, Cathy, invited eighteen of the most respected drummers in the world to New York's Power Station studio, and for two weeks, each day, two or three world-class drummers would perform with the Buddy Rich Big Band".

In my opinion that era and tour was the best Carl Palmer and ELP of their time. They are still great but that was the prime. That is why he is also the best drum solist living today at 63 plus he can still hang :)

Master Stroke...!

He was one of my drum idols as a kid, but now, when I see these vids, well... He plays the way I would play if I practiced all the time and got really good. But he doesn't play like the masters. It looks to me as if he (and I) are trying to do everything using mostly big muscle groups, and as a result he looks tight and forced. The real masters, Buddy Rich included, use small muscle groups and look relaxed, like flowing syrup.

The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Carl Palmer - Tank (Drum Solo 1977)

I always keep my ears open on ELP songs for Carl tearing up the drums. Is he considered a great drummer even among the hardcore drummers?

Carl is a legend not worth the effort to Debate he was the only young drummer in Rock and out of the UK that Mr Buddy Rich notated was of worth. Today I feel the greatest drummer is Steve Smith he has done it all live it all and made quite a bit of money as a Rock star as well
