Cardiacs - Too Many Irons video free download

After filming the Surbiton Assembly Rooms Gig in 1985 and then making the Seaside Treats Video later that year we went on to shoot and edit a video for Too Many Irons and storyboard an idea for Big Ship which never got filmed other than as an animatic. These were shot on a mixture of video, Super 8 and 16mm, but never really got anywhere. There was always no budget and not enough time. As I moved away from college and into "proper" jobs it became impossible to do things for free even though I wanted to.

Too Many Irons was edited in Ripley near Woking in Surrey where I was working at the time and I have copies of it in various states of completion. But I don't think it ever saw the light of day.

The big one was "Is this the life". Unfortunately, record companies and big budgets were involved and our little outfit was sidelined.

Oh well, no hard feelings, bastards! We just went off and did videos for the Cranes instead!

Sadly there never was a video for Big Ship although we did storyboard an idea which involved Tim's head being on a floating TV screen which got more and more manic as it attacked the rest of the band! I think I filmed an animatic for this (basically an animated cardboard cutout version) but the idea got no further and I don't have the animatic anymore I'm afraid. There was also a great idea of building a Cardiacs room in the back of a removals lorry with a fixed camera which would film the band as the truck drove over rough ground (basically an army tank training area near where I lived at the time). The idea was that from the camera's point of view it would look as though an earthquake was happening! Drums everywhere, Cardiacs impaled on saxophones! Dangerous I know, but it would have looked great!!!

I concur with the amazement over this production and the wish to see the "Big Ship" video, if indeed a complete or semi-complete edit exists. Thank you so much for sharing these treasures!!

Is this the same Cardiacs that used to play gigs on the Punk curcuit in the early 80's?
