I never saw this on TV- but if I did, and didn't know this band, I'd have been blown away/ curious, and want to look up more, to then find their glorious musical history. Like nothing else. If you've never divulged, now is you're chance. As ever, my thoughts go out to Tim the genius of Cardiacs. Please recover mate. You are always worthy of laudation. Peace and love, man.

yes indeed. Think the only reason why they were compared was because there is a bass progression that sounds i tiny bit like this monkeys gone to heaven. Cardiacs are on another planet compared to pixies who r lets face it as exciting as doing the dishes

@GuyfromScotland " Frankly, Tim Smith is a genius, comparable to Schubert or Louis Armstrong. There is no one like him in contemporary music. " That quote is not to be scoffed at either. Cardiacs and every off shoot from them, to do with Tim Smith at least, is unlike anything i have ever heard. Favourite bands of mine have come and gone over the years, but without equal, Cardiacs will probably be the only band i will listen to all the time until i die. They NEVER gets dull, it is beautiful !

@pressgangers - zero. How much do the Sex Pistols owe to Green Day? Same. Zero.

@FrankTownsend A true alternative music fan would want an alternative to "alternative" music. Thank god for Cardiacs. They are the alternative that alternative music needs!!!

Sorry, y'all. I'm a fucking yank who had the privilege of meeting both Cardiacs and Pixies's first album engineer Steve Albini before the end of 1986. CARDIACS CAME FIRST. Anybody who hears Pixies influence in CARDIACS is just hearing what they are able to hear. Pixies weren't even in the conversation up to "Tarred and Feathered" and "Is This The Life." Just not even known. Pixies come WAY LATER. Deal with it.

@jibberandtwitch -they know well their influences. And they care about them. At least cared enough to talk passionately about them all in 1986. But I doubt if they care if you know what they know.
