I dont understand why I should do an Em when im not picking any of the strings in an Em?

in the beginning of the verse where you switched from C to Em, whats the point of switching to Em if youre not going to hit those strings anyway? or am i missing something?

I'm just a beginner of guitar. Found this video really really helpful! although I still couldn't help with the zzzz sound that comes from the guitar sometimes, and the F chord is soooo hard. Wondering how you did that all so well. Anyway I'm not gonna give up trying. Thanks again for this!!
