The guy in this video said that "a well done metal music video that goes viral" could make metal popular again. Fast forward in 2014, Babymetal's "Gimme Chocolate" music video happened. Great prediction skills right there.

I kinda think metal i slowly starting to take over because you have a few bands that do that metacore heavy in your face metal like asking alexandria (who toned down a bit on their new album) with their from death to destiny album. Its STILL heavy as hell and 3 songs are on the radio AND charts. Also Of Mice & Men has done the same thing with their new album. 2 songs on the radio so far. If a lot of metal bands did this. Metal would EASILY take over.

in my opinion there is STILL some mainstream metal music, metallica is a GRAND example, and some others I personally have found my own sect of the metal genre

I think metal is gaining popularity daily. Sure, it's not happening very quickly, but i've turned my fair share of mainstream-listening friends into metalheads over my short life on this planet. The big challenge has always been getting them to see past the growling and screaming and to accept the lyrics for what they are and to just generally see that metal is a very technical and intellectual form of art.

might be just semantics on my part -- but wouldn't being signed to a major label count as being part of the "mainstream" at this point?Yeah, maybe we all have different definitions of the word 'mainstream' ? Because there's a ton of stuff that even 'seasoned' metalheads don't get into -- like stuff that purposely don't want to get noticed by the mainstream.

Metal is one of those musics that will always be underground. I am a die hard metal fan and I have been my whole life but I cant see the music being popular ever in fact metal has always been the exact opposite of popular and steers its self away frime being popular. Metal represents the social outcasts of the world and helps people embrace who they really are. Meral has never gone out of its way to be normal and apreciated bysociety. It is a music for people with a rebellious nature

Dan has a point but I don't think metal can become mainstream. Metal has its own unique sound where only few people can grasp the concept and truly appreciate it. Metal is about feeling it in your blood. It is way different than any other music.

I feel that by 2020 hard rock will be back in the mainstream

For that to happen we would need a whole new wave of metal band's.

Metal may not be as big as it was back in its glorious days of the 80's but it is getting back on up the ladder. Take a band I don't particularly enjoy for an example. Asking Alexandria is probably one of the most successful "Underground" metal bands of the past years. If we had more bands to follow the same fate as they did then I think Metal can be a thing as it was in the 80's.

I think metal being underground is better, because if you know about good metal, you know about good music. if it's mainstream, it has to be bad music.

Dying? It has survived for decades as underground music.

If Metal keeps on being ignored, it is a good thing because that just means more bands will be created, but it staying underground, it grows more in Religion, Violence, and Sociology.

In what world are Cannibal Corpse and Mastodon considered "pussy metal bands"?
