Given the melancholy feel of the song, it's far more likely that the other definition of pathos (a quality that evokes emotion/sorrow) is being used here. It's entirely up for debate, but in my opinion, this music truly epitomises the term 'mono no aware'.

@Gonjir you see, for me the ending of the song (lyrics) is quite hopeful: "Now waiting for someone to proclaim salvation, his price has been paid", like whatever happened, it's gonna be better. Soon or later. But the first verse is trully hopeless and sad.
