Bangles - Call On Me (with Jeffrey & Steven McDonald) (live @ Cathay De Grande, Hollywood CA 7/31/83)
One gets the feeling that the band was trying to put a cap on the fame that their first single "Getting Out of Hand" brought them as they perform that song and the flipside "Call On Me" both with special guest vocalists. Here, Redd Kross' Jeffrey & Steven McDonald try to help out on "Call On Me", but are barely able to remember the lyrics making the song into a quasi-instrumental with them only piping in for the chorus (this obviously was when the brothers were still in their getting-fucked-up phase that they thankfully soon grew out of).
Recorded live at the Cathay De Grande in Hollywood CA on July 31, 1983. Sharing a bill with Black Flag (!) and Redd Kross (whose singer Jeffrey McDonald was dating Bangles guitarist Vicki Peterson at the time) the show does a great job of representing the band in all their sloppy garage band glory at the height of their paisley underground notoriety in L.A.. Also notable about this show is that it is one of the first performances with Michael Steele, who had just replaced Annette Zilinskas on bass.
