Unfortunately Mics only record in mono (there are some stereo mics but most are mono) so you will have to pan the audio (you could convert the audio to separate mono channels and get rid of the right side) . What you could do is set up the mic (if the cable is long enough) so that it points down towards the middle of the drums from behind you (also move it around and experiment with it and see what you like the sound of best). Mic stands are generally quite cheap and you will need two later.

Thanks for the feed back! Eventually once I have the funds I will get the whole kit micd up, until then, im using the camera mic. It has an external port for a mic so I tried using an SM58 but it only records left channel audio so I have to pan it in my video editing software... Do you have any suggestions for using a single external mic with that camera and how to get it to record left and right audio? Thanks again

Awesome sounding drum covers! Just subscribed. If you have the funds available might I suggest a kick, snare and 2 overhead mics and an interface would be a good starting point for getting the kit miked up. Software wise most DAWs would do, although preferably not Garage band (fine for starting but Logic Express is far superior). If you have any questions I can try and answer them (I am doing a sound technology degree so would be happy to help) keep up the good drumming!

Thanks for the suggestion, Im still trying to figure out levels since I have no professional recording equipment, this is just raw camera mic audio.
