Actually, Cake is not rap. It's a sort of borderline funk/rock.

Not sure I like the vibraslap in this song. But this isn't one of my favorite songs anyway.

does anyone think CAKE is rap? they're nothing like rap

ClosestToTheSun

I simply don't think CAKE is anything close to rap. Love this song, and as always with CAKE this is a pretty accurate rendition.

the only time rap and cake go together is when you take cake over to a friends house, and of course you dont want it to get cold or dried out , so you rap it , yes i intentionally spelled it wrong

My comment is really old, so it's a bit outdated with my opinion of now, but The Distance is still rap. It has to do with musical sound; comparing it to fall out boy headbanging is completely irrelevant in terms of music as that has to do with someone's stage presence. If John was smackin' booty and wavin motionin' wit' his pimp hand, I wouldn't call it rap.

dude, it's called spoken word, or speak singing. that's like calling fall out boy metal because they head bang while they play.

Very true, and that's why I do enjoy the linguistic qualities of the Beastie Boys as a rap band. As with CAKE, Beck and the Barenaked Ladies's rap songs.
