" You Showed Me" a Beatles' influenced songs, written and performed here by The Byrds in 1964, but not released by them until their Preflyte album in 1969, when The Turtles also had a hit with it.

yes congrats on your explanation , said explanation wasn't posted when I replied to the one that said that this was a demo version recorded in '64..thank you for your thoroughness., and shared information. The demo was under Jim Dickson.

There were three versions on this song issued from the Pre-Flyte sessions, all of them on the Sundazed box from 2001. The first version, the so-called acoustic version, came out on vinyl on Together Records in 1969. The second version (this one) is called the electric version and is at a much faster tempo. It first came out on the Rhino Records CD "In the Beginning". A third instrumental version is also found on the Sundazed box.

This is not the original tempo, this was a redo. McGuinn and Clark wrote the tune and it was demoed under Jim Dickson which landed their Columbia deal. Try listening to it on Preflyte album release which wasn't with the Rickenbacker , was more acoustic at that early stage, before they really found their harmonies and formula.

This is a demo version recorded at World Pacific studios in 1964, before they were signed with Columbia Records. They never re-recorded the song once they signed to Columbia. It first came out on an album called "Pre-Flyte" on Together Records in 1969.

I believe there's another Byrds version of this. When I was in college, a friend had what I think was a bootleg version of "You Showed Me." As good as this is, I thought the bootleg was even better. As for what you like - Byrds or Turtles version of this song - I personally don't think there's a right or wrong answer. They're both very good. Depends on whether you want it slowed down or speeded up, which may be based upon your mood on that day. It's like choosing between steak or lobster.

Cute that the bands are names of Animals. Both versions kill.

Indeed. :) But who knew it was a Byrds song? They just take it out of this stratosphere or,,,,something hehe! Beautiful vocals. Too bad it wasnt one of their best known tunes. And I have been a music freak all my life & collect records and everything but I never knew. So amazing. And Im rarely impressed anymore thanks ~"Jen"

Agree! There many fine versions of this, but the Byrds kill it!

The slowed-down dreaminess of the turtles's version made it appealing to me. This felt kinda...rushed or something. Great to have the chance to hear it though. :)
