My Maria

Don't you know I have come a long, long way

I've been longin' to see ya

When she's around she take my blues away

Sweet Maria

The sunlight surely hurts my eyes

I'm a lonely dreamer

Lonely highway in the skies

Mar-i-a

Mar-i-a, I love you

My Maria

There were some blue and some low times

Just my thoughts about you bring back

My peace of mind

Gypsy lady

Your a miracle work for me

You set my soul free

Like a ship sailin' on the sea

She is the sunlight

When the skies are grey

She treat me so right lady

Take me away

Mar-i-a

Mar-i-a, I love you

Mar-i-a

Mar-i-a, I love you

B.W. Stevenson (5 October 1949 - 28 April 1988) was an American country pop artist, working in a genre now called progressive country. "B.W." stood for "Buckwheat." Stevenson is most famous for his song "My Maria", co-written with Daniel Moore. As recorded by Stevenson, "My Maria" became a smash hit, reaching #9 on Billboard's Hot 100 in 1973. The tune was covered much later by the country duo Brooks & Dunn, for whom it was a three-week #1 country hit in mid 1996.

It's all pretty good though, really. If it's not good, well then we need to buy more vodka

This is my "go to" song when I'm feeling blue. Nothing against the Brooks and Dunn version, but, c'mon, you can't beat an original. :)

This should have been on the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. Maybe GOTG2?

I requested this song by Buck Wheat on my favourite radio station in Ottawa (BOB FM) and they actually had it. Love this song!!! Released in 1973 and it's absolutely timeless. Unfortunately 15 years later we lost an amazing talent. RIP BW.

Brooks & Dunn did a good job in 1996 when they covered it. But I'd prefered B W Stevenson's.

I'm a big fan of the b-side of this single - AUGUST EVENING LADY. Real sad. Thanks for sharing the good memories from the days when there was talent and inspiration.

I'm sure some of y'all are gonna disagree with me, but when I listen to Brooks and Dunn's version, magic happens. When I listen to this original version... there is no magic. :(
