Saw this broadcast when it was first shown, almost 30 years ago now. I was a young and shallow jazz lover, an aspiring pianist, and wanted speed and acrobatics in my piano players. I remember like it was yesterday, waiting for the great Teddy Wilson that my old man had always talked about from the Goodman days, to show his stuff on 'The Man I Love'. And waited... and waited... and 'all he did' was play the tune. Straight. After a few seconds of that, it was arrows straight to my heart. All the soul, all the living, all the years, all the bandstands and study poured into that melody and those chords. And the young, shallow cat thought to himself: "Man, if I can play like that one day... some day... before I go..."

a really great swinger, Mr. Teddy Wilson ! he played the piano for Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday and Lester Young on several records. i enjoyed him live in Regensbur/Germany in 1983. never forget this fantastic musician.
