The liner notes list 1957 as the copyright date for this song, which is interesting. The MGM Wizard of Oz film was HUGELY popular at this time, having been re-released to theaters in 1956, and also making its network TV debut that same Christmas. There's a STRONG resemblance between the choral refrain of "Lollipop Tree" (the "ha-ha-ho" section) and the "Merry Old Land of Oz" (""..and a couple of tra-la-la's"). I think similarity was intentional...and adds to the innocent fun of this tune.
