"im not sure about bumblefoot, i haven't listened to much of his work so i can't judge," (Fluffypopcicle, two weeks ago, commenting on "Ron Thal Bumblefoot YG /1") Like I said, you have more faces than an oven full of gingerbreadmen. Why don't you start investing some time in actually listening to players, instead of downsizing them? Based on nothing more than a strange mix of ignorance and prejudicial nonsense? It's clear you haven't heard a fraction of an iota of this man's discography.

3/3 …Buckethead improvises/composes minimally around archetypical patterns and creates only the superficial impression that he has mastered the style. Ron, unlike Buckethead, is able to come up with more innovative and/ or complex improvisations and concepts in a broader spectrum of styles. In short: Buckethead only “sounds” like it, where Ron really “plays” it. It doesn’t matter that Buckethead’s discography is substantially bigger. It’s quality and authenticity that counts, not quantity....

2/3…you were crediting Buckethead as the freakin’ inventor of 8-finger tapping. That one ALONE still has me gasping for air!! Buckethead is a textbook pattern player and Ron is the diametric opposite of a pattern player, simple as that. To an untrained ear Bucket’s discography might seem as a giant cornucopia of styles. However, it boils down to a giant exercise in repetition and superficiality, laced with only a few gems. Ron explores more genres than Buckethead and explores them MUCH deeper.

@Fluffypopcicle 1/3 Exactly the type of ignorance you would expect from a person who thinks Rusty Cooley makes really interesting music. I saw your comments on his videos and I must say that I understand your inability to recognize patterns better now. You just don’t seem able to grasp it at all. That's why you see Bucket's repetition driven discography and live shows as one huge celebration of well executed styles. Your posts are a testimony to ignorance. In another discussion I had with you…

@GuitarMasta777 Buckethead's work revolves around endless (and often pretty uninspired) use and re-use of Slonimsky's Thesaurus of Patterns and Scales, Pebber Brown's ideas, Paul Gilbert's nondecatuplet based ideas and a few basic (and very rigid) chromatic concepts that stem from misinterpretations he had about Shawn Lane's demotapes on "one note at a time recordings". He even recycles his own songs. Bumblefoot is eons upon eons beyond all of that, technically and compositionally speaking...

@Captainfalconargenis This is far from Buckethead's stuff, but Buckethead's amazing on his own ways. I do know what you mean though, they not so common way of playing share similar notes, licks and maybe even (a few) songs.

@PhrAiLGuitarist - Fuckin amen brother!! Fucked up twisted sense of humour in his music. Could shred with the best of them but choses to do his own thing, you got to give him maximum respect for that alone. Only discovered him a few months ago, and has rapidly become my favourite artist. Not many shred heads can write great lyrics and great songs. In fact..... to my knowledge, he's the first that has lol.

I agree, Buckethead sucks. How could anyone call a Bumblefoot song "Bucketheadish"?!! It's blasphemy, Thal writes (and plays) way better songs than Buckethead!
