Giles' voice is like soulful, silky British chocolate. And the very personal look into the heart of a good man's character is always a lovely thing to see in storytelling. Usually, the musical episode is something of a death knell for a show. It's so gimmicky. But the sincerity and silliness was, as always, so perfectly balanced. I do so love Joss Whedon's stories.

I love how almost every song was used to bring the characters to a big emotional revelation.

If youve ever watched the episode the entire cast are singing about their own emotions and its generally the things they couldnt say unless the singy demon thing hadnt have been summoned. Not a theory, its what the episodes about

Though I agree with Taylor 5, who seems to have come up with an in depth reason that I in a million years would never have thought of, I think it may also have to do with the song. The line 'the cries around you, you don't hear at all' in particular. She is too carried up in her own life and how unhappy she is that Buffy isn't paying attention to anything around her and thus doesn't hear him. Just a theory.

I absolutely loved this entire episode, and this song in particular was one of my favorites. ASH has such a lovely, lovely voice. *coos* Thank you for sharing this!

The song is words and emotions he keeps to himself. It's like you want someone to hear something you want to tell them, but in real life the words just can't seem to leave your mouth. He cares for her but he's unsure how to tell her because of how she had been treating him. He wants to take away all the bad things, but at the same time he wants her to stop relying on him so much and start being her own person again. He believes that even though he cares, he's just standing in the way.

Basically the episode was a homage to musicals, and in certain musicals you can sing without anyone else in the room hearing.
