When the dream came

I held my breath

with my eyes closed

I went insane,

Like a smoke ring day

When the wind blows

Now I won't be back

till later on

If I do come back at all

But you know me,

and I miss you now.

In a strange game

I saw myself as you knew me

When the change came,

And you had a

Chance to see through me

Though the other side

is just the same

You can tell

my dream is real

Because I love you,

can you see me now.

Though we rush ahead

to save our time

We are only what we feel

And I love you,

can you feel it now.

Where in the @!&*$%!! hell did someone get the idea that this song was written by Laura Nyro?!  Everything the Springfield officially released was original. This song was recorded live (official & bootleg) many times later with CSN and just Neil solo. Early in the bands career, the producers said Neil's voice sounded "weird" and tried to dissuade him from singing his own songs! They were all great friends and Neil & Steve loved each other like brothers--but they also fought and competed like brothers in a love/hate relationship, Stills got more of his songs in, which edged out Young tunes like "Down to the Wire" (not released until "Decade" in 1976). Young's attitude was O.K., but I'll be damned if Stills is gonna sing my tunes! Richie was the in-between peace maker and had a beautiful voice, so he sang Neil's "Flying on the Ground Is Wrong", "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing", "Do I have to Come Right Out and Say It" and this one,

Classic hit I love the song.

The horns and strings give it a touch of 60's soul sound, I wonder if that was the intent?

This song kind of has a moody blues feel to it

I prefer the solo Neil version of this song as its meant to be...but this is a pretty great brand version...mostly because of Bruce's great bass work and Richie's great vocals.  I prefer Neil's more pure acoustic and vocal, but they both are on point here.

Listen to that bass by Bruce Palmer!!!! Really is as Niel once said, "He's the white James Jamerson." PLEASE GOD CAN SOMEONE DO A BASS COVER OF THIS!!!???!??!?? There is not one person who has filmed themselves doing a bass cover of this anywhere on YouTube. I would do it myself but unfortunately I no longer have a bass amp....

Would have been a great song for Don Draper in final Mad Men episode.

"Now I won't be back til later on, if I do come back at all..."Something about that line always gets me.

Buffalo Springfield was a launching pad to greatness for many of its band members.*Stephen Stills was a co-creator of Buffalo Springfield. Stills went on to become Crosby, Stills, & Nash. Prior to Buffalo Springfield,  Stills and fellow  BS bandmate Richie Furay, played together in the group, Au Go Go Singers.*Paul Richard Furay (aka Richie) co-created the Buffalo Springfield band. In 1969, Furay, and fellow BS band member, Jim Messina, formed the country-rock group Poco.*James Melvin Messina (aka Jim) played with three mega hit maker bands.   After Buffalo Springfield,  Messina went on to become duo, Loggins & Messina.  He later joined Furay in the country-rock-group Poco.  A side note, one of Poco's  band member was Timothy Schmit, who left Poco to join the Eagles.*Neil Young had a solo career and collaborated on the album Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young.***As for the song On the Way Home, I think it is about a young man with a dream to be a rock star, and realized too late that the real thing, the important thing in life, was the woman back home, he had left behind to chase his dream.
