@bassostupenda I couldn't agree more. Terfel is a bass-bartitone and his low notes just don't have the weight for this bass aria.

@Figaro48 I saw him perform this live (not this performance though). He actually whistles that! It is really impressive.

What I want to know is: was that him whistling? It isn't actually written out in the score and I never heard this particular rendition elsewhere so I assume it is original with Bryn Terfel. I like it. I just want to know if he can whistle like that or is he lip-syncing.

ancora un baritono,ma questo qua è di una volgarità allucinante. adoro i cantanti che sanno come usare la volgarità nell'espressione senza essere volgari,con eleganza... ancora un passerotto chi vuole sentirsi ..............un aquila imperiale. voce e interpretazione poco adatte à questo repertorio. interpretazione brutta. non mi piace affatto.
