Yes. Yes. Ella Fitzgerald does a nice version too. But the whole point about this song, the very way the lyrics are constructed, is that it's meant to be sung straight: the effect is excruciatingly naïve, helplessly over-refined, and all the more romantic for it. It isn't a woman's song (such naivete is more moving in a man); or jazz; or German (though Greta Keller sang it); or Brian-Ferry ironic. It's 1930s, English, simple, and beautiful. None of the downloads j u s t does it r i g h t.
