Listen to this aria from the rarely performed Verdi's opera, "I due Foscari", in the heartfelt and deeply involved rendition of Bruno Prevedi, a sadly underestimated Italian dramatic tenor.

Jacopo Foscari, son of Francesco Foscari, the Venetian Doge, is tormented by the vengeful spirit of the Count of Carmagnola whom the Doge of Venice, his father, has slain. Jacopo begs him to have pity on him, because he should not be held responsible for his father's actions.

Quanti talenti dimenticati!!.

Of course, I told you I strongly disagree with them. I consider him an outstanding artist, and I am afraid we are not going to hear the likes of him anymore. His singing always moves me so deeply.

Those critics that found BP lacking variations in dynamics are the same that get paid to enhance the qualities of the media favorites. Famous singers agents invite some critics to to give an honest opinion, but is money is exchanged, where is the honesty? That is why we have to educate ourselves, the art of singing is beautiful, but with many nuances not easilly appreciated.

I completely agree with you. It's interesting that you stress his superb dynamics, because many critics said he lacked varieties in dynamics. Well, I strongly disagree with that, because this aria, and some others, is the perfect proof that he was completely able to express diverse, contrasting emotions by the sole means of his voice. He may not have had Corelli's diminunedi and mezze voci, but Prevedi was undoubtedly a superb interpreter of numerous roles! His singing always moves me so deeply!

The first "notte" is a jewel, BP changes dynamics, 2nd."notte" he is lyric and pensative. Notice how he gives emotion and a sense of a powerful drama using a superb technique. There are feelings of tenderness, also anger, diverse colors in the voice, always proyected in the mask and well supported. Most tenors push for the big sound, shouting to impress. Maestro Prevedi was an artist, poetry was in his voice, effortless and powerful.

Yes, indeed, I completely agree with you. I am happy to hear that he is not completely forgotten. I am really impressed by his timbre and depth of interpretation, which reminds me of Corelli, my favorite tenor. I can never remain indifferent and unmoved when I hear him singing. I already know all that about him that you mentioned. Thank you for your beautiful and appreciative comment. :) I could even send you an article from Opera Today newspapers with his biography I found on the Net.

I bought BP first long playing. He was a baritono originally, and worked up to become a quality tenor, technicaly wise and as a very musical interpreter. Previdi has the beautiful color of a strong lyric tenor and the medium-top register of a dramatic tenor. Very smooth and poetic. His early departure(RIP) left us without the comlete tenor Previdi was,

Thank you so much for this post--an opera not heard enough with a wonderful tenor who needs to be remembered for his contributions to opera.
