Lyrics:

One night in a motel room

eyes cast like steel

I drank the wine they left on my table

I knew the morning was too far

I smoked my last pack of foreign cigarettes

I stay only to survive

the night was dark and the land is cold

it's frozen right to the bone

and just like fire would

I burn up

just like fire would

And just like fire would

I burn up

500 miles I have gone today

tomorrow it's 500 more

outside my window the world passes by

its stranger than a dream

and just like fire would

I burn up

just like fire would

And just like fire would

I burn up

I go to work and I earn my pay, lord

and the sweat it falls to the ground

I see you now but we may never meet again child

the ice is hanging on the door

One night in a motel room

eyes cast like steel

I drank the wine they left on my table

I knew the morning was too far

and just like fire would

I burn up

just like fire would

And just like fire would

I burn up

Angus MacBagpie, this song harps back to a day when song lyrics told a story reflective of the mood, using metaphors and similes - you know - artistic. As a result the Saints were credited by many of the worlds most popular bands as being their top influence.Of course you sound like more of an expert than say Bob Geldof or Bruce Springsteen - perhaps they too should only have rhyming lyrics and tell simpleton stories for you.

Great song from Brisbane, Australian band, The Saints.Original much better than this one. Late 80s early 90s.Youtube it! They are awesome!! Best band to come out of my fine city ever. In my opinion.

Yes terrific Saints song from late 80s.The best band to ever come out of Brisbane, Australia. Chris Bailey(lead singer/songwriter)would be um maybe proud?Original is much better though I gotta say.

I have no idea why Bruce likes this song. He writes much better lyrics and melodies himself and the words to this don't even rhyme. "Just like fire would - wood, get it? Huh, didja get it?"   Lame.
