Bruce taught me everything about turning words into beauty. All throughout school I aced every single writing assignment I ever got, and all I did was think if I could hear Bruce singing it as I wrote it, and if so, it stayed on the page.

Upbeat!?!? The tune yes. The lyrics though! It's about loving someone that insists on destroying herself. I will say this, Bruce, esp. in the early "Jersey" period, was a master at combining upbeat melodies with rather dark, even unnerving observations/recollections of adolescence in the Mid-Atlantic states. This album owned me the first time I heard it, and I bought it when it came out.

It's not that nursery mouth I came back for And it's not the way you're stretched out on the floor Cause I've broken all your windows And rammed through all your doors And who I am to ask you to lick my sores? I came for you
