Original Columbia Records #45805

Released in 1973, but did not chart.

From the LP "Greetings From Asbury Park".

Bruce's very first single release.

This is a very valuable record that is normally kept in my safe deposit box.

I purchased it originally at Harmony House Records, Middletown, New Jersey,

just 10 miles away from Asbury Park.

Little did I know at the time just how rare this record would become.

I recall seeing about 10 copies in the slot on the wall display of the record store. Should have bought them all!

The original was from the album "Greetings from Asbury Park" which was his debut album. This single never charted until "Born To Run" was his first big it in 1975. Manfred Mann's Earth Band had their only big hit with their hit version of "Blinded By the Light" in 1977 or 1978.

This song isn't quite that rare. It gets played occasionally on the Music Choice Classic Rock channel.

I always preferred this version. Has a certain "feel" to it if you catch my drift- something you'd hear in a place where the beer is cold and the music is hot.

There was a syndicaed net work called "The olides channel"! The local station let this version go over the air. It was apart of the networks normal format!

Manfred Mann ruined this song!

Per Goldmine, a near mint copy (NOT radio station white label promo copy) is worth $500. Add another $400 if you have the picture sleeve. The holy grail is the regular commercial copy of "Spirit in the Night", which is worth $1500. Put those two records in a safe deposit box and take good care of them!!! Curious - do you remember where the garage sale was where you found the records (ie. what town)???

This is perhaps my most valuable record that I own. I took it out of the safe deposit box to record this video. Back in the vault it goes! I purchased originally in early 1973 at local record store in Middletown, just 10 miles from Asbury Park. I still vividly recall the special slot on the wall for local bands where this record was, and that there had to be at least another 10 records there! Should have bought 'em all at what was probably 79 cents each.
