[Video #21] from http://www.youtube.com/user/MetalGuruMessiah the address for MetalGuruMessiah's Musical Paint Box! Check out my other videos!
My 21st video in a series I'm working on for some of my favorite songs from the past.
Bruce Springsteen released the album Darkness On The Edge Of Town in 1978. T song for this video, "Adam Raised A Cain", was of the many great songs on that album.
This was one of those albums that I can clearly remember, after all these years, the very first time I heard it. I had never heard Bruce's other albums and I didn't really know what to expect. Sitting in my bedroom and listening to that music is a very clear memory because the memory made a huge impression on me..Darkness On The Edge Of Town was literally played in my house nearly 24-7 for months.
No other Springsteen album before or since had the effect on me that this one did. I believe it to be his definitive work. Just the second song I've done a video for which came from one of my top ten albums of all time (the other being Catherine Wheel's Adam & Eve from 1997).
There were several songs that I really wanted to create a video for from this album. Each song is a masterpiece, but "Factory", "Prove It All Night", and "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" "Streets Of Fire" and "Badlands" were, among with "Adam Raised A Cain", the top contenders. I definitely plan on doing videos for them all eventually.
The lyrics to this song are amazing as is Springsteen's powerful and emotional delivery.
The video was created really quickly and consists of the images of the father and son, the pair of crows, and several biblical images of Cain and Abel. I tried to use the clouds to reflect turmoil and the storm as an analogy to the relationship.
Hope you enjoy it!
[Lyrics]
In the summer that I was baptized,
My father held me to his side,
As they put me to the water,
He said how on that day I cried.
We were prisoners of love, a love in chains,
He was standin' in the door, I was standin' in the rain,
with the same hot blood burning in our veins,
Adam raised a Cain.
All of the old faces,
Ask you why you're back,
They fit you with position,
And the keys to your daddy's Cadillac,
In the darkness of your room,
Your mother calls you by your true name,
You remember the faces, the places, the names,
You know it's never over, it's relentless as the rain,
Adam raised a Cain.
In the Bible Cain slew Abel
And East of Eden he was cast,
You're born into this life paying,
for the sins of somebody else's past,
Daddy worked his whole life, for nothing but the pain,
Now he walks these empty rooms, looking for something to blame,
You inherit the sins, you inherit the flames,
Adam raised a Cain.
Lost but not forgotten, from the dark heart of a dream,
Adam raised a Cain.
