many years ago, i said these words - black sabbath cracked the earth of metal and priest paved the way. iron maiden just elevated it. a person doesn't have to like a certain band ie like mrshadowofthewind who doesn't like priest - it just is.. i totally agree with your summation.

That is your opinion not a fact , i don't even like Priest ,and Maiden has several albums with a big 80ties stamp ,and they sound less unique then Black Sabbath ,i like Bruce's solo albums better.But i like Black Sabbath the most ,as you could probably tell ,much more versatile and groovy along with great lyrics.

While I agree that Toni Iommi Invented heavy metal with Geezer, the fact is, Sabbath invented it, Priest gave it an identity, and Maiden Perfected it.

Let me put it this way ,Black Sabbath started everything ,without them there would not have been a Bruce Dickinson heavy metal vocalist.So the real legends are every Sabbath member.Besides ,their music is far more versatile then anything that came out after them ,and in my opinion that goes for any 60/70ties band.
