After some thirty years since this song was released, does a Drone replace the rocket launcher or the helicopter

@ Barry Davis......Yes, we are fortunate to have Healthcare in Australia. We also have an extremely low incidence of gun related crime, (let alone killings) thanks to a radical amendment to our gun laws in 1996. I only wish it hadn't taken a massacre to cause these amendments. IMHO, the USA gun laws are nothing short of ludicrous. A child could work out that less guns = less gun crime, yet American kids are packing guns along with their lunch boxes. To take pride in the fact that 99% of Americans own guns is surely a very shallow victory?

Commenting again USA has the most gun related mass shootings than all other democratic countries. AK45- semi automatics , and other weapons of this type are "right to bare arms". USA IS FUCKED UP!

If someone had a rocket launcher and used it to kill a bunch of people -he could get away with it claiming right to bare arms. It works with AK45 and other same type weapons doesn't it?

Nostalgic; the title and chorus were memorable for someone growing up on early-mid 80s rock radio in Vancouver. Listening now, it's a sad song... and from a musical point of view, the rhythms are off at the micro level. Not that the average listener would notice...

Bruce played a different kind of Christian music...about the real, not some pseudo-pious bullshit.

If you want to hear what Bruce Cockburn himself says about the song, as well as read the lyrics, go to The Bruce Cockburn Project; it has some great quotes and research. "When I wrote the song," Cockburn stated,"it was an expression of those feelings, but I didn’t want to incite people to go down there and kill Guatemalan soldiers…"-- Cleveland Free Times, 2001. And in a March 2002 interview in the Edmonton Sun, Cockburn commented on NOT playing “If I Had a Rocket Launcher” around 9/11/2002: "I think it's the wrong emotional climate, especially in the U.S. right now. People will hear it the wrong way, and I don't want to run the risk of feeding a body of emotion that I don't want to trip up." Later, he says: "I'm not a pacifist. You don't have to be a pacifist to think peace is better than war. There's just a best way to go about things."He’s a complicated man, and it’s a complicated song. I personally read it as, this is how you feel when you see human beings hurt so badly—you want to defend them. It’s very, very easy to tip into violence from a place of compassion. And the ethics are not simple at all. With Love, Namaste, Pam

Here comes the helicopter -- second time today Everybody scatters and hopes it goes away How many kids they've murdered only God can say If I had a rocket launcher...I'd make somebody pay I don't believe in guarded borders and I don't believe in hate I don't believe in generals or their stinking torture states And when I talk with the survivors of things too sickening to relate If I had a rocket launcher...I would retaliate On the Rio Lacantun, one hundred thousand wait To fall down from starvation -- or some less humane fate Cry for guatemala, with a corpse in every gate If I had a rocket launcher...I would not hesitate I want to raise every voice -- at least I've got to try Every time I think about it water rises to my eyes. Situation desperate, echoes of the victims cry If I had a rocket launcher...Some son of a bitch would die..!.. ...........:)O(:...........
