BROTHER JACK! What more can one say!The man who took FUNK into another dimension with his B-3, JACK and the B-3 combo is legendary. Back in the days, there were loads of super swinging down funky organ players around, many was like JACK, some serious JAZZ key figures (JIMMY SMITH, JIMMY McGRIFF, REUBEN WILSON, RICHARD "GROOVE" HOLMES, JOHNNY "HAMMOND" SMITH, LONNIE SMITH and LARRY YOUNG) that in their later years succumb for this rhythm explosion called FUNK.None of them can touch BROTHER JACK though, when it comes to playing the B-3 (or any other organ) with such a perfect touch and "in tune" for FUNK, BROTHER JACK McDUFF is the one! . This album was the the start (give or take some years) for the second coming of the legendary JAZZ labels that in their later years incorporated FUNK into their repertoar. PRESTIGE, BLUE NOTE and CADET are labels that none can have missed regarding JAZZ, these labels were also the leading and most prominent ones when FUNK was an issue and turned the syncopated JAZZ into some gritty hard and swinging bonanza. A never seen or heard again mix of the truest form of rhythm "ON THE ONE" (there's hundreds, if not more, of these "lost" funky albums among these labels if you dig deep enough)!Hunk O' Funk is one of the baddest and most brutal track that shows what FUNK was all about (no matter what), JACK also recorded plenty of other landmark Funky Jazz tracks in his later FUNK career. Two albums on CADET is a much, and BLUE NOTE recorded several classics like this with JACK. PRESTIGE and the "Hot Barbeque" album that included the title track was a glimt of what to come from this powerhouse in Jazz Funk label (this is the label you need to search high and low for if you're down to FUNK).1966- Hot Barbeque PRESTIGE1969-Gin and Orange CADET1970-Moon Rappin' BLUE NOTE1970-To Seek A New Home BLUE NOTE1971-Who Knows What Tomorrow Gonna Bring BLUE NOTE1972-The Heatin' System CADETNo HERBIE HANCOCK! You say? Nope! HERBIE is HERBIE and he plays in a whole other division, he belongs to the exclusive club with the other genre maker or genre top contributers and geniuses like JAMES BROWN, STEVIE WONDER, THE METERS, SLY STONE, GEORGE CLINTON and such.
