Brother Ali's newest CD ''Us'' doesnt dissapoint at all. As always, Ali spittin' the truth. With a feel good track like "Fresh Air'' keeps the album well balanced. Some hard truths with feel good music, what more can one ask for? =)

For every little girl who suffered emotional, physical and sexual abuse. For that same little girl who grew up abusing substances to mask all the hurt inside. You are still somebody's daughter. You still deserve love and respect even though a broken down woman is used to settling for less...

This song helped me through such a hard time! First time I heard it I was at the gym. I was trying to alleviate my depression by working out more, and I just started crying on the elliptical machine! "Don't run baby girl, don't run. You gotta face what you're fighting head on. Only one thing I can say in truth, gotta deal with those demons before they deal with you." I realized that working out was all well and good, but I needed to stop running away from the underlying problems and actually address them. This song encourage me to do that and reminded me that I wasn't alone, and that there ARE people out there who would understand and care.

There's big pieces of a life she can't rememberHer mind shuts down, it's trying to protect herMight be for the best to forget but it seems likeThey always reappear when she least expectsLate nights we lay awake, drowning in the lake that pours out of her faceYears late but she's still not safeMemories leap out ant time, any placeThe way he smelled, the way he smiledThe evil she even recognized as a childHand on her throat, sting of a fistInstead of her first kiss she got thisShameful feeling, painful secretLonely knowin' that nobody would believe itEvery wound that escapes her time capsuleHurts like the day it was born and it's brand new[Refrain]I wasn't there babygirl but I'm hereI don't know what to say I just hearIf there's one wish I could make trueI would shoulder that pain and take it off youDon't run babygirl, don't runYou gotta' face what you fighting, head onOnly one thing I could say in truthYou gotta' deal with the demons before they deal with you[Verse 2]How can she find peace in her mind whenLove means returning to the scene of a crime?I can feel it inside we've reopened wounds every time we intertwineSuch an evil design when you can't even enjoy the sweetness you findTrying to see through the tears in your eyes and rebuild your shrine one piece at a timeE & K made it all fade awayColors don't burn no more it's all grayCan't find heaven from within that shell, but it's enough of a blessing if just not seen hellConstant inner dialog says just end this roller coaster ride you're onOnly one solution seems final: slide into a hole where your pain can't find you[Refrain][Verse 3]She said if I was meant to die he would've killed meThere must be a reason that I still breatheI don't have the tools to rebuild meBut I still believe that one day I could feel freeAnd my body can be mine againMy eyes can learn how to shine againMy inner child won't have to hide and thenWhen I'm strong then love could be invited inSweet God that's all I ask, of theeI'm willing to give what you demand of meI'm learning to embrace the realityThat life doesn't always turn out how it's planned to beI didn't deserve what was handed meOnly one who can grant happiness is meWhat it takes for her to face the dayI can only hope to be half that brave
