The sun came up with no conclusions

Flowers sleepin' in their beds

The city cemetary's hummin'

I'm wide awake, its mornin'

I have my drugs, I have my woman

they keep away my loneliness

My parents, they have their religion

But sleep in separate houses

I read the body count out of the paper

And now it's written all over my face

No one ever plans to sleep out in the gutter

Sometimes thats just the most comfortable place

So I'm drinkin', breathin', writin', singin'

Every day I'm on the clock

My mind races with all my longings

But can't keep up with what I got

And so I hope I dont sound too ungrateful

What history gave modern man

A telephone to talk to strangers

Machine guns and a camera lens

So when you're asked to fight a war thats over nothin'

Its best to join the side thats gonna win

No one's sure how all of this got started

But we're gonna make 'em God damn certain how its gonna end

Oh yeah we will, oh yeah we will!

Well I could have been a famous singer

If I had some one else's voice

But failures always sounded better

Let's fuck it up boys, make some noise!

The sun came up with no conclusions

Flowers sleepin' in their beds

The city cemetary's hummin'

I'm wide awake, its mornin'!

I always rate 'I'm Wide Awake ITs Morning' really high on my best of 2000s CDs, and then remember the songs aren't all great, but it ends up on this raucous beautiful musical catharsis and so it remains in my top 5/top 10

impact he wishes-upon himself and the world. We expect religion (social convention) to keep a relationship strong and us emotionally viable. Yet he offers that he gets more relief from drugs (the socially unconventional model.)

You are wrong but it's ok. I understand most art should be open to interpretation. We have a written poem basically, of which there is a very distinct device being used by Conor in the stanza in question. Parallelism. Conor has drugs/woman. He is lonely but chases it away. Parents have religion. They are lonely and sleep in separate houses (either emotional or physical separation.) This is a very interesting stanza because he's always been sharply critical of religion not having the

Interpret it as you please of course, but I believe it says "My parents have their religion, but sleep in separate houses". I think he is trying to point out the hypocrisy within organized religion in terms of selective decisions as what to follow (In example, believing gay marriage is wrong, but being divorced at the same time, even though the bible says both are wrong)

i can perfectly relate to this song. My parents are separate with their own religions. and also the military as well. its like a perfect life soundtrack.

Wow, what an incredible song. Parents have their religion but sleep in separate houses...jesus that's a good line. Thumbs up if you agree. :) 9 People don't know their asses from their elbows.

Well, if you listen to the lyrics: "But failures always sounded better. Let's fuck it up, boys. Make some noise!" So, I'd assume any off-notes are intentional. Same way poetry by Emily Dickinson or e.e. cummings works toward a purpose when you read it, not simply "regardless" of grammatical "errors," but because of those intentional changes.
