Brenda revives an Al Jolson hit from 1918. The song was commonly heard in the acts of legends like Sammy Davis and Judy Garland. One of the great "one hit wonders" in musical history was comedian Jerry Lewis' 1956 recording which reached #12 on the Hot 100. Lewis sang it straight and powerfully. It was his only song to make the charts. Brenda recorded it for her first album in 1959 when she was 14 years old. She sings a different version here, about 30 years later.
Rock-a-bye your baby with a Dixie melody;
When ya croon, croon a tune from the heart of Dixie.
Just hang that cradle, mammy mine,
Right on that Mason Dixon line
And swing it from Virginia
To Tennessee with all the love that's in ya.
oooh "Weep No More, My Lady" - sing that song for me,
Sing it soft and low, just as though, you had me on your knee;
A million baby kisses I'm gonna deliver
The minute that you sing that "Swannee River."
Rock-a-bye your rock-a-bye baby
With a Dixie melody
