Back in 2012 my older brother was killed in an IED explosion in Afghanistan. He along with 9 other soldiers died. His body was so badly damaged they dubbed him the Unknown Soldier for about 3 weeks until he was ID'd. This song unknown soldier was one of his favorite songs. RIP bro. I feel like the meaning of this song is about a person who is depressed. I know it's sort of cheesy but, i was depressed too the part where he says "hide the hate inside" hate is one of the many things that depression makes you feel. The person is begging for someone to show him the better things in life hence "dream in black and white." The part where he says "holding on to tight bring the breath of life" means that the person is stuck in the past and needs to think about the future and move on and the second part is exactly what it says. I know how it feels to almost feel emotionally dead but all i had to do was change my perspective of life. CHANGE=PROGRESS
