If writing songs about life's hardships and relationships and shit like that is emo, I guess almost every songwriter ever is emo. Emo is short for Emotional. "'Critics have praised the band for their ability to write infectious hooks and the sincerity of their lyrics, often about growing up and relationships' = emo" is such a dumb opinion. If a band can come up with music that has a good hook and sincere, how many people in how many genres are now capable of being labled as emo?

hes just dumb ass lol. im not one that relates to the Emo genre at all, but ide rather have someone that could cry bc of their depth of attachment to their music than the vomit that is spewed all over MTV now. Even MTV is trying to move back to the way they presented themselves during the time period of new found glory. they know the general public is beginning to believe the current trends are a joke, and MTV is feeling the heat...esp after the VMA's (V for Vomit).

By wikipedia's definition, the entire genre of Rock can fall under it. It's to general of a statement to be a factual definition. What you need to refer to are bands that are actually emo and compare. Emo bands are bands with a slower tempo and most of the time are very negative about life. New Found Glory is less that and more relate-able. Deja Entendu by Brand New for example is an emo album. If you listen to that record and then listen to this, you should notice the differences.
