Mike Sanchez is a Rhythm and Blues singer, pianist and songwriter of Spanish-English heritage. He is widely known for his work with the Big Town Playboys and Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings, and also for his highly-successful solo career. He is highly-acclaimed for his authenticity to the work of post-war blues shouters and piano players.
"Rocket 88" was the opening song on a great night of good old Rock 'n' Roll, Ryhthm & Blues and Boogie Woogie Piano Music in central France. Whilst Mike is undoubtedly the main driving force and 'head-honcho' of the Band, the other musicians are all top-notch pros and I found it a nice touch they were all introduced and name checked at the very start of the show.

There is no way to settle the argument over what the first rock and roll record was but "Rocket 88" by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats (actually Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm) is certainly in the running. It bears no resemblance to the song played by Mike Sanchez.9 years ago

I like Sanchez. That's All Right (Mama)" is the 1st Rock & Roll song. ("Rocket '88" rocks out, but is a fast shuffle blues. Rock is 2/4 time) Based on that (and much more) Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup (Crew'-duhp) who first began doing his music that way is (if any one-only can be named such) the actual "Father of Rock. What sucks is: Arthur NEVER was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, under 'Influences', even though so MANY he influenced in one way or another have been! And he never got a royalty14 years ago
