The band had to evolve. They couldn't keep producing the same sound. If they had, they'd have died years ago. But I agree that the hard rock sound was their best. And I think that now, 20 years after their last hard rock record, they could easily return to their roots. Even the critics would probably welcome a true return to what they do best. They need Richie though. And the record would have to be a collaborative vision. As smart as Jon is, he surely knows that if they ever want to make one last outstanding return to form record, the record they'll bow out on, the record that'll be remembered - he needs the input of all his band members. There is seldom anything created that doesn't benefit from somebody else's input. Love them or loath them, the guys that make up the band are undoubtedly fine musicians - it'd be ridiculous not to use them to maximum capacity.

I´m a die hard Bon Jovi fan also I have all the records from the band but I have to say that Bon Jovi as a hard rock band died after These Days. Since 2000 they have become some kind of pop rock band. Unless the have 5 of the greatest hard rock albums of the history.
