Playing live and sounding good at a radio station is a feat in itself. There are NO nice reverb effects to give your performance ambience, etc. It's just flat. On top of this, he chose probably one of the hardest songs of all time to play and sing acoustically. And his dreads are sick. My hat is off to you Newton. Keep the goodness coming.

"How many singers could pull of the singing and playing like he does really"...I have seen dozens just at a bluegrass festival I attend every year. There are amazing musicians around every corner. Just so I don't become the Internets Worst Offender" I will restate...I think he is an EXCEPTIONAL guitarist, with a decent singing voice. No harm in that.

Mainstream is reserved for pop music. As soon as you take the path less traveled there are amazing musicians in every genre. He is an exceptional guitarist, really, he is great. I just don't see him as an act that is doing stuff that hasn't been done before, if not from better musicians and singers...or both. I still would rather listen to him than anything that has made the top 20 in the last couple years. At least he is bringing real talent to the masses.

There are many, many guitarist out there that are technically and stylistically better. I not saying he is a bad guitarist, he is exceptional, yet I have personally seen better. To each their own though. He is better than the pop BS that we get fed on the radio and boobtube.

How many singers could pull of the singing and playing like he does really.. At the time, the Bob and Tom Show was one of the biggest radio shows in the country... So why is it that I never even herd of Keller Williams, Martin Sexton, Jackie Green, etc... Simple, these types of music artist is not what goes mainstream in the US unfortunately and we get stuck with Beaver and Gaga.

@mattmit If you ever get the chance to talk newton Faulkner you will see that he is far from self centred. The fact that he is a 'soloist', would, to any logically thinking human being, imply that he perfectly satisfied playing by himself. Comparing an acoustic soloist to any band member is fairly counter productive seeing as what makes modern music so good is the fact that it has so many variations! So, until you have even a shred of the talent that newton has, you should contain your opinions
