"Blue Velvet" is a 1950 popular song, written by Bernie Wayne and Lee Morris. It has been recorded by several artists, most notably Tony Bennett and Bobby Vinton, and has inspired a film of the same name. The most popular recording of the song is that of Bobby Vinton, which hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 21, 1963, and held the top spot for three weeks and also spent eight weeks atop the U.S. Middle-Road charts. Vinton's recording failed to make the British charts when originally released, but a re-release in 1990 went to #2 in the United Kingdom. Copyright infringement not intended

Love this song with the "walking bass". Brings back beautiful memories of my teenage years also of the rock & roll era, the beach ball movies & "Rebel without a cause"!

Just curious which Bobby Vinton song was first, Blue Velvet or Blue on Blue? I'm pretty sure they were both hits in 1963.

I heard this on the radio when I was about 8 years old--(50 years ago). This was right around when the 'Beatles' songs began to be played and really transformed music in the 1960's. I still love those pre-Beatle songs of that era and this song and I remember my Mom saying "Oh that was made by Tony Bennett." We both loved this one --and I miss you Mom.
