I can't remember Bobby playing any notes much above high G in any of his solos I know. That proves that you can play wonderful trumpet without those skyscraper screams.

just thought I'd remiind everyone that Hoagy Carmichael was a student at Indiana University, Bloomington, and walking across campus one day when this melody popped into his head. He remembered that there was a piano in the student union so he made a detour to use the piano and write down the tune before he forgot it. Thank God for small miracles.

Jon used the organ as if it were an orchestra. There was no one to compare with him. Oh, BTW, the trumpet dude is pretty good too. ;)

Thinking of players who were ALWAYS tasteful: Hackett, Lester Young, Johnny Hodges, Buck Clayton et al...what a gift-to us!

I fully understand what you mean, and guys like Marsalis have gone to stinkville, but Hackett was true to his music. Sadly, beautiful music, is passing quickly. I thank my stars for xm, but that is becoming limited as well. Thanks for your wonderful, I cherish my copy of the LP.

I love soo many players:Maynard,Wynton, James Morrison, Sandoval, Faddis, Freddie Hubbard, Clifford Brown, on and on and on. But Bobby Hackett has this honesty(not that the aforementioned dont) and simplicity that is just beautiful.
