Bob Wills, known as the King of Western Swing was very influential on the Hillbilly genre. His career began as far back as 1935 and as well as being a Country singer, also starred in no less than 19 films. His version of this popular American Folk song was recorded in 1946. Make hay!

A traditional cover of this old folk song. Much better than that dreadful Rednex version.

I'm sorry, but your description is inaccurate. In his own words, Bob Wills said in a 1945 interview in Time magazine, "Don't confuse us with any of them hillbilly outfits." Western Swing is Jazz under a Stetson.

So glad to hear a redition of this song that reflects the hidden meaning of rhe Cotton-Eyed Joe. Why the hell did Rednex change the lyrics and lose the meaning?
