You should hear Joan Baez's sons around this time. We all loved her then, even now but not as many of us remember - '61 - 64.

These early songs were after he discovered Woody Guthrie, say when 19-20, yes at first in Minneapolis. Once he heard Woody's songs, it became all he was interested in, while having heard a large amount - all of them available - at age 14-19. I did not know he played a couple of songs that I thought came later - in NYC - but hearing this recording helps me to understand more about this man with a mostly-unknown, undetailed past....This one seems later but whoooo knooows?

Over 200 years ago, Jonathan Lewis raped and murdered Naomi Wise, throwing her body in the Deep River, which flows thru Randleman NC. Locals still talk of her murder today....even though it occured in 1808...saying you can still hear her crying along the banks of the river . It is said on his deathbed, Jonathan Lewis confessed to the murder. Naomi is buried at Providence Friends Church, Randolph County, NC. She was 18 when she was killed. Memory of the tradegy was kept fresh by these lyrics.

I think it might be for Bonnie Beecher who was an actress and had a part in an episode of the Twilight Zone in the 1960's. She actually sang a beautiful folk song in that episode and had a lovely, lovely voice! Not sure how they met or what their relationship was though.
